10 Things I Wrote About in September (in which I scramble out of a blog-migration induced coma)

31 Days of Lists 400px graphic no subtitle

This month, I’m participating in The Nester’s “31 Days of Change” project. The challenge: to write every day for 31 days! Click here to read more and to see what other listy-things I’ve been up to.

At the end of August, I moved the blog over to a self-hosted WordPress blog. It was an impulse decision and I did it over the course of about 3 days, which I do not recommend. So, September was a month of RECOVERY. I did manage to do one or two things when I wasn’t wildly celebrating my 25th birthday. Let’s discuss.

Personal/Just For Fun:

New Blog Home (in which I gain the coveted label of “spammer”)

Friday Flashback: Wedding Edition (in which we begin to celebrate heartily)

Crafts/Home Decor:

Festive Fall Roundup (in which I convince you that the end of summer is actually a good thing)

$70 Dining Chair Upgrade (in which I skip the thrift and buy new and shock my blog audience entirely)

Touched-Up Vintage Oil Painting (in which I work some real-life photoshop magic)

Barn Door Potential (in which Mom and I try to redeem something that may not be redeemable)

House Tour: Farmhouse (in which I introduce you the perfect new “old” house)

world market dining chairs

Farm Apartment: Before the Roof (in which we complete the labor intensive and visually non-stunning parts of building)

Farm Apartment: Trusses (in which I overwhelm you with pictures of wood and machinery)

And Finally, a Recipe:

A Tale of Two Hamburger Bun Recipes (in which I forgo the easy route for something much more complicated and delicious)

Homemade Hamburger Bun Recipe! (5)

And now I need to conclude this post with something witty and engaging. Um. Anyone want to give me some good list ideas? I know you’re probably aching for an intimate glimpse into my head…

Oh yes, and I normally ask how YOUR September went. Any other birthday buddies? Ken got me a CAMERA (like, a nice one) which I was debating whether or not to share since I don’t actually know if the quality of my photography will improve over my point and shoot. Anyone have any tips to share? Note:I can press buttons, but that’s about it. Keep it simple.

Can’t get enough? I thought so. Check out these old recaps: JanuaryFebruaryMarchAprilMay, June, July, and August!

      • Haha well I am not familiar with nikon but the theories are the same no matter what brand. It’s been like, a year I bet since I have seen you! Soooo we really do need to get together soon :)

  • What are some of your dreams/goals? What are 10 things we don’t know about you? I think that would be a great personal list post :) how about a list of your favorite Pinterest/internet finds each week?
I actually noticed that something was slightly different in your photography! Yay new camera! My husband surprised me with one about a year ago. <3 Just have fun with it, experiment a lot, there are a lot of great photo tutorials on Pinterest(that's how I taught myself manual mode), and seriously don't be afraid to switch out of automatic! I was afraid of the manual settings for a long time, but i sat down with a "cheat sheet" and practiced and after about a month I was able to do it comfortably (but not perfectly! I'm still learning.) The most important thing though is to get the picture, so if there is no time to play around with settings auto mode will do a good enough job!

  • I have heard wonderful things about WordPress, but like you and your camera, I am afraid of it! (Also, afraid of DSLRs but I don’t have one, so no big deal!) I am technologically illiterate for the most part, and can’t justify the expense of having someone else do it. Also, like a DSLR, moving it is on my “someday” list!;) Your blog is beautiful, I’m following on Facebook!
